Scope
Slate patio and coastal planting scheme for a sea-view property.
Property with a sea view across Cork harbour. Owners wanted a patio that wouldn't fight the view — something dark, calm, and durable enough to take Atlantic salt air.
Brazilian black slate in a riven finish for the patio, with a low planting border of coastal-tolerant species (sea thrift, lavender, ornamental grasses). Hardcore sub-base over a permeable membrane to handle the wet site.
A patio that recedes into the landscape rather than dominating it. Three years on, the slate has weathered into a softer charcoal and the planting has filled in completely.

Brazilian black slate, riven finish.
Riven, salt-resistant, weathers into a softer charcoal over time.
Hardcore over permeable membrane — drainage was the limiting factor on this site.
Sea thrift, lavender, festuca grasses — chosen for salt and wind tolerance.
