    Scope

30 sq m Indian sandstone patio replacing aged concrete.

    The brief

Existing 30 sq m concrete patio had cracked, sunk in two corners, and pooled water against the back wall of the house. Owners wanted natural stone, proper drainage, and a finish that wouldn't fade.

    Our approach

Full excavation of the old patio and sub-base. New compacted hardcore sub-base, sharp sand laying course, and Indian sandstone in a riven finish. Drainage falls calculated to take water away from the house. Pointing in slate-grey to complement the stone tones.

    The result

A patio that drains correctly in heavy rain, won't sink, and ages beautifully. Indian sandstone has held its colour and finish through a full Irish winter.

    Materials used

    What went
    into it.

    Indian Sandstone

Riven finish, mixed warm tones — chosen to suit the stone walls of the house.

    MOT Type 1 Sub-Base

Compacted in layers to 150mm — the foundation a patio needs to stay flat.

    Sharp Sand Bed

Screeded to a 1:80 fall away from the house, before slabs are bedded.

    Slate-Grey Jointing Compound

Slurry-applied flexible compound — pulls the joint tight, no washout.
