Hedge cutting

    Hedges trimmed
    with the right blade.

Leylandii, Laurel, Privet, Beech, Hornbeam, Griselinia, Yew — cut to height, batter and shape, with all green waste taken off-site to a licensed facility.

Hedge Cutting project by Hillview Landscapes in Cork

A hedge is the slowest piece of architecture in a garden. A Beech or Yew hedge takes ten years to feel substantial; a Leylandii panel can be three metres tall in five and out of control in seven. Cutting a hedge well is partly about the shape and partly about protecting the next ten years of growth — taking too much off the wrong species or at the wrong time can undo decades of patience.

    How we work

    Three stages,
    one clean line.

    01

    Assessment and cut height agreed

We turn up, walk the line of the hedge with you, and agree on a finished height and width before any blade is started. For overgrown hedges we'll often do a single stage of restorative cut now and a second next year, rather than hammering it back to bare wood in one go. We'll be honest if the species can't take it.

    02

    Trim and shape

Petrol hedgecutters with sharp blades, scaffolding tower for anything over four metres, steady hand for the long runs. Faces are cut to a slight batter — wider at the bottom than the top — so light reaches the lower foliage and the hedge does not go bald at the base. Tops are levelled off a string line.

    03

    Green waste removal and clean-up

All cuttings raked, blown and removed off-site to a licensed green-waste facility. The kerb is left clean, the lawn is blown free of clippings, and the cut faces are inspected before we invoice.

    Investment

    Quoted to the hedge,
    not the hour.

    From €80 small one-off · €150–€400 typical residential

Long runs over 50m, tall hedges over 3m, and difficult-access hedges are individually quoted. Annual maintenance contracts work out cheaper per visit because we factor scheduling and travel efficiency in. Every quote is free, written, and includes the green-waste removal — there are no surprise disposal fees on top.

    Why Hillview

    The reasons it
    lasts.

    Every Irish hedge species

Leylandii, Laurel, Privet, Beech, Hornbeam, Griselinia, Yew — each takes a slightly different cutting approach and timing. We know the difference.

    Petrol kit, not consumer trimmers

Long blade lengths, sharp, balanced. Battery hedge trimmers tear leaves rather than slicing them, leaving brown edges for weeks afterwards.

    Green waste responsibly disposed

We take everything off-site to a licensed waste facility and provide a paper trail if you need it. We do not burn cuttings and we do not fly-tip.

    Insured for difficult work

Public liability insurance covers up to roof-height work; tall Leylandii hedges that need a tower are no problem.

We cut hedges regularly across Mayfield, Glanmire and Cobh, and across the rest of the city. Long rural hedge runs out toward Watergrasshill, Carrignavar and Riverstown are quoted as larger one-off jobs. See all areas we cover.
