    Scope

Failing 25-year-old hedge cleared and replaced with a stepped, rendered concrete boundary wall.

    The brief

A semi-detached property in Glanmire with a mature privet hedge running the full length of the front boundary. The hedge had been there for over twenty-five years, had thinned out in patches, and was no longer doing the job — visually or as a working boundary. The owners wanted a clean modern replacement that would lift the front of the house, last decades, and stop the maintenance load the hedge had become.

    Our approach

Two days of clearance work with a 0.8-tonne mini-digger to take the hedge out cleanly and remove the root mass without damaging the adjacent paving. Footings dug to 400mm, reinforced, and poured fresh. The wall was built in two stepped sections following the slight gradient across the front of the property — solid 100mm blockwork, double-skinned, with the stepping kept visually consistent. Finished in a warm taupe render to match the existing house finish. Precast concrete cap stones set on a clean mortar bed for a sharp level finish across both sections and on each pier.

    The result

Where there had been a failing hedge there's now a finished boundary wall that lifts the entire front of the house. The client has gone from cutting, feeding and shaping a hedge twice a year to no maintenance whatsoever. The wall will outlast the next two boundary fences on the road.

    Sand & Cement Render

Warm taupe finish, chosen to pick up the render tones on the house behind.
